Attorney Irwin H. Cutler Jr
Irwin "Buddy" Cutler concentrates his practice in employment and labor law and nurse representation. He represents employees, including hourly workers, salaried professionals and executives, in their employment disputes, advises them on protecting their interests, and litigates on their behalf in federal and state courts and in administrative hearings. He represents labor unions throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and in surrounding states. Many unions turn to him for daily advice, to handle their arbitrations and negotiations, and to advocate on their behalf in court and before the NLRB. He counsels and advocates for nurses before the Board of Nursing and other agencies.
Education & Background
Mr. Cutler received his BA from Yale University and his JD from Cornell University Law School. Following graduation, he clerked for U.S. District Judge Mac Swinford. He then joined the predecessor firm of Segal Stewart Cutler Lindsay Janes & Berry, PLLC, where he became a senior partner. He is now a partner with Priddy, Cutler, Miller & Meade, PLLC.
Professional Memberships & Leadership
A past Chair of the Louisville Bar Association section on labor and employment law, he was elected in 2005 to the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, a national organization composed of the leading lawyers in this field, both labor and management. At the time, he was one of only eight Kentucky lawyers in the College, and one of only two representing labor or employees. He is a member of the labor and employment sections of both the Louisville and Kentucky Bar Associations. Mr. Cutler has been a member of the Lawyers Coordinating Committee of the AFL-CIO since its founding in 1983.

Mr. Cutler is listed in "The Best Lawyers in America", a peer-review guide to the legal profession, and in "Who's Who in American Law". He is recognized as one of Kentucky's "Super Lawyers".
Martindale-Hubbell gives him its highest rating, AV Preeminent.
Publications & Presentations
Mr. Cutler is the author of a chapter in West's Federal Practice Manual and is an editor of supplements to "How to Take A Case Before The NLRB". He is a frequent speaker at continuing legal education programs and before union groups.
Community Contributions
Mr. Cutler volunteers for various civic and charitable organizations, having served on the board and as an officer of the Kling Center, on the board and chairman of St. Francis High School, on the board of Kentucky Labor Union Museum, on the Workers Rights Board of Kentucky Jobs with Justice, and on the Advisory Board of Actors Theatre of Louisville. He volunteers in mentoring and organizing mentors for college students who work in Louisville during summer vacations.
